STOP! How much MONEY are you leaving on the table?
If you’re walking into your Medical Sales interview without a salary strategy, you could be costing yourself $10K… $20K… even $30K or MORE.
And it all comes down to this one question that always sneaks up on candidates ⤵
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬?”
Cue the awkward pause.
Say the wrong number, and you’re either lowballing yourself… or pricing yourself right out of the job.
So how do you crush this question with confidence?
Here’s your strategy to secure a paycheck you deserve ⤵
1. 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭:
Before tossing out a number, take control.
Try this:
“Great question! I’d love to learn more about the responsibilities and the compensation range budgeted for the role to make sure we’re aligned.”
This keeps you from shooting too high or too low and puts the pressure back on THEM to reveal their cards first.
2. 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 (Not a Single Number):
Do your homework. Use tools like Glassdoor, Salary.com, and LinkedIn to research competitive ranges.
Then say something like:
“Based on my research and experience, I believe a range of $100K–$140K base is appropriate for this type of role.”
(Pro tip: Make sure the low end of your range is still a number you’re thrilled with.)
3. 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞, 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:
Instead of focusing on what you made before, emphasize what you bring:
“In my previous role, I consistently outperformed targets. I’m looking for an opportunity that reflects both my track record and the value I can bring to your team.”
4. 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞:
Remember, in Medical Sales, your base is just the beginning.
Don’t forget to ask about:
- Annual performance bonus
- Commission structure
- Sign on bonus
- Stock RSUs
