Tell me how to prepare for a medical sales interview

“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

A new student at Med Rep College learned this the hard way.

He spent 5 months trying to break into medical sales.

He applied everywhere.

Got a few interviews.

But each time, the same response came after the first round interview ⤵

“𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐞’𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬.”

He is a 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐭 by training that is detailed orientated, adaptable, and passionate for patient care.

But something wasn’t clicking during his interview.

Here’s what we are working on during mock interviews ⤵

1. Presence Over Perfection

↳ He stopped sounding rehearsed and started connecting.

↳ Authentic > scripted.

2. Body Language

↳ Sat up straight. Made eye contact. Stayed calm.

↳ Confidence is contagious—even nonverbally.

3. Active Listening

↳ He reflected, responded, and asked thoughtful questions.

↳ Interviewers noticed his presence.

4. Subtle Signals

↳ Polished attire. Steady tone. Strong follow-up.

↳ It communicated: I care. I’m serious.

5. Storytelling That Sticks

↳ He used examples from his PT job to prove his value using the STAR format.

↳ Instead of saying “I’m a problem solver,” he shared an experience where he had to create an improvised rehab plan for a post-operative patient who didn’t respond to the standard treatment protocol.

If you’re hearing “no” after first-round interviews, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

It’s about how you show up ⇢ communication.

How do you make a strong 1st impression?
